Trepat, 2021

We love our obscure, indigenous varietals. Trepat comes to us from the dusty hills of Catalunya, a stone’s throw from the Sea. Here, Mariona Vendrell and Albert Canela fell in love studying winemaking in Tarragona and started Succés Vinícola in 2011 at the tender age of 20. Since then, they have burst onto the scene celebrating Trepat in various forms. Here they foot tread twice a day for 2-3 days in tank. Then whole berry pressed for a well extracted light red, dark rosé that will have you trumpeting to the world like pink elephants about this dazzling explosion of joy in wine form. Certified Organic.

The Story: Mariona Vendrell and Albert Canela fell in love studying winemaking in Tarragona and started Succés Vinícola in 2011 at the tender age of 20. They successfully introduced themselves to the world of Spanish wine with a still red wine made with Conca de Barberà’s favorite grape, trepat. Traditionally, the trepat grape was used in the region’s rosé cava and first vinified tinto only a decade ago. Albert’s uses his family’s vinous connections to source Succés’ fruit from older, organically farmed vineyards owned by local abuelos and continue to push the boundaries of what’s considered possible in the region with good farming and introspective winemaking. Mariona and Albert take part in all the work together. The wines are made in a natural manner, which is progressively becoming more and more of a focus in The New Spain.

7-year-old vines at over 1700 ft above sea level. Destemmed and foot tread twice a day for 2-3 days in tank. Then whole berry pressed and spontaneous fermentation. Aged for 4 months and bottled without filtration. No SO2 added.
