The Story: The wine portion of the Bikicki family started with his father and uncle, whom initially acquired vineyards and helped run their wine business. But when Djordje entered the equation, he took on a low-intervention approach, and injects his passion, creativity and dedication into the wines, which is apparent in their elegant yet youthfully fun styles. As Djordje became more engulfed in wine, so did his direction of doing things his own way under the influence of nature, patience and authenticity. Since 2019 they have been farming organically and started the organic certification process in 2020. Bikicki’s 8 hecatres of vineyards are located in the sleepy village of Banoštor, an ancient wine region on the norther slopes of Mount Fruška Gora, looking towards the Danube River.
The fruit for the S/O is hand harvested in two passes in both late August and early September, fermented separately with native yeasts in open top polyurethane fermenters, a portion sees a shorter 3-day skin maceration, while another see a bit longer of 8 days maceration. Transferred and aged for 1 year in 500L neutral Serbian oak. Bottled with no fining or filtration, and minimal sulfur addition used at bottling.
Personality: This wine is an orange sunset color, a shout out to the complex and rich expression of the varietal, with aromas of dried nectarine, baked apple, red grapefuit peel, and subtle white pepper. On the palette, the wine is lush, full bodied, and packed with juicy blood orange, rooibos tea, and luxuriant freshness.
Harmony: The body and fragrance of this orange wine helps cut through the bold and spicy flavors found in curry dishes and Indian cuisine. Chill her down. Order take-out, you won’t be disappointed.
