Malbec, 2021

We’ve been a huge fan of Lo-Fi Wines ever since we visited their tasting room in Los Alamos a few years back. As a nod to their vinyl themed brand, you can pick out an LP on deck for the tasting soundtrack. These wines are available in Seattle for the first time. Here we have a Malbec from Coquelicot Estate Vineyard in Santa Barbara County, that utterly blew us away when we tasted it. Hand harvested and crushed by foot once daily during fermentation. Aged for 8 months in neutral French oak. Nothing added, nothing taken away except a das of SO2 added without filtration in keeping with their minimalist (lo-fi) philosophy. Light on its feet, full of energy, and delightfully unfussy. Organically grown.

Grape: 100% Malbec (clone 4 on 5BB rootstock)

ABV: 12%

Soil: Positas fine sandy loam over clay and gravel

The Story: Lo-Fi is a partnership between two lifelong friends - Mike & Craig - who believe in hand crafted honest wines that are made for every day drinking. Wines to be enjoyed not to be collected, easy drinking lower alcohol wines made to pair well with all types of foods, from pizza to paté. They believe in neutral barrels, native yeasts, little to no sulfur additions, and no adjustment of pH. They love whole cluster fermentation and adore carbonic maceration. They embrace a nothing added, nothing taken away philosophy that gives birth to wines that are young, vibrant and alive. Less is more - drink up!

Personality: Juicy blackberry, plum, and sour cherry meet floral notes and a whisper of spice, all carried by bright acidity and soft tannins. It’s medium-bodied at most, with a silky texture and just the right amount of grip.

Harmony: Throw it in the fridge for a light chill and pair it with tacos, grilled veggies, or a good playlist. This is Malbec with a California twist—fresh, fun, and refreshingly laid-back.
