The Story: The vineyard is located outside of the small town of Acquaviva below Montepulciano on a south facing hill. Eugenia's son has a masters in herbology and applies his knowledge to natural farming, adding value to the winery by bringing new and experimental biodynamic treatments made of herbs and seaweed so they don't have to even use organic treatments such as copper and sulfur in the vineyard. Growing exceptional grapes through biodynamic farming is Luteraia's main focus. In the crescent moon phases we treat the vineyard with "Marine Plasma," generated by the combination of a Biostimulant and Essential Oils of our own recipe: a synergy of substances dissolved in a "vital fluid" where algae, propolis, magnesium, horsetail, yarrow, and other ingredients find a perfect balance giving the vineyard what it needs to sustain itself. In the spring, each vine receives its own "homeopathic compost" made of vine leaves, grape marc, wine lees, essential oils, medicinal plants, marine plasma, and a small amount of sheep organic matter.
This wine uses the grapes from the youngest Sangiovese vines that grow right next to Trebbiano. They are picked together and spontaneously co-fermented with native yeast together in the ancient Tuscan tradition. Aged for a few months in stainless steel the wine is then bottled and designed to drink young. Eugenia decided on this vintage to add a drop more Trebbiano to the blend with the results being a fresh vibrant red that can be also be served chilled in the summer. Other than a small dose of SO2 there are no additives, interventions or manipulations in the winemaking process.
Personality: Bright ruby red colour. Light and easy drinking red with enough to share. at 1 liter format.
Harmony: Break out the Parmigiano-Reggiano!
