Maria Pia started Antica Tenuta Pietramore in 2011 with her partner Massimilano. The name reflects Maria’s love and respect for the soil, Pietra means stone in Italian, and Amore means love, afterall. And Maria’s wines demonstrate the potential for quality wine with a high level of expressiveness, like this outstanding classic red made from Abruzzo’s signature grape, with notes of fragrant roses, red fruit and spices to enliven the palette. Certified organic and biodynamic.

Grape: 100% Montepulciano

ABV: 14.5%

Soil: yellow sandy-clay soils that enhance the freshness and aromas of the wine

Story: The estate consists of 70 hectares of organically and biodynamically farmed vines. Maria commenced Pietramore with her partner Massimiliano in 2011. The vineyards are nestled in a gorgeous area between the Maiella mountains and the Adriatic Sea. The result is a unique microclimate very diverse soil. Maria works with indigenous varieties but adds personality to the wines through her creative side. Harvest is by hand, yields are kept low. Hand harvested, foot stomped in a tub. Ageing in steel vats for at least 6 months and then 2 months in the bottle.

Personality: Ruby red with intensity and complex flowery notes of red roses, ripe red fruits, redcurrant, blackberry and slight spicy hints, soft tannins, full flavoured, with a delectable texture

Harmony: This would make an exceptional pairing with vegetable lasagna and lot’s of red sauce.
