Pinot Noir & Apples

From the psychedelic mind of Luke Allen Wylde, comes Lares ‘Disco Made Me Do It’ - a blend of Pinot Noir and apple cider. Totally not what you are expecting, but crisp and dry with great acid and a hint of minerality. The Pinot Noir was organically farmed from the Gillirose vineyard in Elkton, Oregon, and pressed down there to ensure it did not take on much if any color. The organic apples were grown and pressed in Hood River, Oregon. Separately barrel-fermented, the Pinot saw 30% “new” wood in ReNew barrels for 10 months. Until now, all of Luke's work blending wine and cider has been towards sparkling production so Luke wanted to see what happened when they intentionally made a serious still wine. It’s up for you to decide if a wine labeled an eagle eating a supermodel wearing ruby slippers in the light of a giant rainbow disco moon is a serious wine, or not. Either way, it’s delicious!

Story: Lares Wines is named in honor of ancient Roman deities that protected home, hearth and harvest. Luke Allen Wylde (they/them), owner/winemaker, describes them as “deeply personal family gods” instead of the big names like Apollo or Jupiter. From the colorful wine labels that draw heavily from heavy metal music, his Dungeons & Dragons obsession, and scary dream themes to Wylde’s innovative techniques, there’s not another winery in Oregon quite like Lares. This small label gives Luke the space to lean on what he has learned over the years and to create new things because of that experience. Ultimately, Luke wants to make wine in his own way, in a style that’s not dictated by representations of anything but his own curiosity. Working with grapes that are either new to them or using them in unfamiliar ways. They follow intuition, listening to the flow influencing the world around them, never going into harvest with “a plan”.

Personality: Light bodied and playful, this wine has sass with raspberries and yellow apples over a crisp and satisfying finish.

Harmony: Make an offering to the Gods, and sip this with your witch coven under the moonlight, or maybe scarf down some Thai leftovers after dancing the night away.
