Chenin Blanc, 2024

Chenin is our favorite white varietal, and it’s delightful to taste one from South Africa, as the country’s most planted white grape. The Brookdale Mason Road Chenin is a vibrant and complex wine from a challenging vintage in Paarl. Crafted by young winemaker - Kiara Scott Farmer, from a blend of young and old vines, this wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged on its lees, with a small portion of barrel aged wine added for richness. The result is a fresh, aromatic profile of wild flowers, quince, and bergamot with the classic Chenin ‘Margarita of Wines” sweet-n-sour explosion.

Story: The story of the Brookdale Estate Chenin Blanc 2024 is written by the very soil of Paarl itself. Following a highly wet and cold winter that gave way to a challenging, dry summer, winemaker Kiara Scott Farmer expertly guided this wine to bottle, showcasing the region's resilience. The wine tells a tale of generations, as it’s a unique blend of fruit from the estate’s original 1993 vines and its newer 2016 plantings. This approach is all about "building complexity with terroir, rather than tools," using natural fermentation and long aging on its lees to create a wine that’s an authentic expression of its home.

Personality: This is a wine of surprising depth. It opens with the fresh vibrancy of wildflowers and citrus, then unfolds into a rich, mouth-coating palate of golden apples, brioche, and butter. It finishes with a delicious twist of ginger spice and nutty sapidity.

Harmony: A perfect wine for a long, leisurely brunch on a sunny patio, where its fresh vibrancy can cut through rich dishes like duck confit hash or dungeness crab benedict.
