Maanschijn 'Brunch Club' Pet Nat
Walker Bay > South Africa
Sauvignon Blanc, 2023
This is Maanschijn's 'Sauvie' for the Brunch Club, a naturally fizzy Sauvignon Blanc made using the old-school "Méthode Ancestrale" (aka Pét-Nat!). They pick the grapes early, let it spontaneously ferment low and slow, and then finish bubbling right in the bottle, so don't worry if you see a little sediment, it's all natural baby! It's a fresh, lower ABV gem with notes of pink grapefruit, key lime zest, and guava, plus a hint of almond and biscuit, making it absolutely perfect for a vibey brunch with the girls.

The Story: Okay, so here’s the scoop on Maanschijn, it’s got a great backstory. Paul and Doug went all in after discovering this super charming, old farmhouse on a saltwater lagoon, surrounded by Tasmanian blue gums, very Tomales Bay vibes. They named it Maanschijn ("Moon Shine") after the big mountain behind their cellar. The setup’s super modest: tiny office, hand-crank press, a barrel room, and for now, the 'Brunch Club' wines are made just down the road. They're all about capturing the feel of Walker Bay through its mix of sandstone, quartz, and clay soils, think stony, saline, and super site-expressive. Definitely a duo to watch in South African wine!
Personality: This Pét-Nat is basically your best friend for a good time – super fresh, totally zippy, and always down for a vibrant brunch or chill hang, with a surprising depth that keeps things interesting!
Harmony: This fizzy friend is amazing with anything brunchy, think avocado toast, fresh fruit platters, or even a zesty seafood ceviche!
