Tempranillo, 2023

Forget everything you think you know about Tempranillo from hot AF Spain. Winemaker Germán Blanco‍ calls this— his flagship wine— a “vino de pueblo”, which he translates as “a wine for every day and for everyone.” All his wines, but especially this one share a delicious rusticity, purity of fruit, and incredible freshness. Quinta Milú is named for Germán's son Lucas whom they lovingly refer to as "Mi Lu" or Milú. A perfect holiday pairing.

The Story: About a two hour drive due north from Madrid, Germán Blanco set up his micro-winery operation in the small town of La Aguilera. He makes "vinos de pueblo", blended wines from different vineyards and villages in the area, like this one from sustainably farmed vines which average 50 years of age. He uses only traditional farming methods and is bringing back ancient techniques like foot stomping* of grapes. All of the fruit for this wine is destemmed; crushed by foot as mentioned, fermented in open top oak foudres and clay amphoras, and aged in neutral oak barrels. Bottled unfined and unfiltered and without cold stabilization.

Personality: This beauty has an incredible capacity to be both vibrant and fresh, yet exhibiting dark flavors of black cherry, plum, cedar, and clove.

Harmony: Pair it with Grilled Steak, Eggs & rich, saucy Patatas Bravas
