Sylvere Trichard is a young vigneron who lives in the small hamlet of Blacé, a village in Beaujolais and makes wine along with his partner Mathilde Sothier. The vines for this declassified Beauj are located behind the couple’s home, and are around 70 years old. After harvest, the grapes undergo semi-carbonic maceration for around one week, and from there are aged in fiberglass and cement vats for several months. This wine is light, floral, with notes of cherries and strawberries. A perfect easy drinking wine to pair with holiday meals. Organic and biodynamically farmed.

Story: Sylvère Trichard took over his Grandmother’s four hectares of vines near the Beaujolais commune of Blacé in 2012. Along with his partner Mathilde Sothier, the pair work with biodynamic principles in mind, in accordance with the lunar calendar; but not pursuing strict certification. Vines are between 20 to 80 years old and planted on sandy clay soils over granite. Sylvère & Mathilde have been working hard on the family farm to encourage biodiversity, planting an orchard in 2020 and trees between the rows of vines. The trees will also help greatly with adding shade for the vines as temperatures continue to climb each summer.

Personality: Due to a vein of granite that passes underneath this plot of vines, there is a mineral finish to this wine that is reminiscent of the grand cru wines of Beaujolais. But otherwise, flutters of cherries and strawberries and a florality to the nose along with crunchy structure and well defined fruit.

Harmony: One of the most versatile wines to pair with food. Think Mediterranean cuisine, light poultry dishes, and why not pork?
