Our former wine production instructor, Bill Snyder along with his wife Anne launched this fun project with their first vintage last year in Oregon. This stunner of a Riesling offers immense aromatic complexity, a full-bodied food friendly palate with a salty edge, and a sense that you’ve just elevated yourself to a sublime realm. This juice is a must try from a producer you’ve got to get to know.

Grape: 100%  Riesling

Soils: eroded granite and limestone

ABV: 13%

The Story: Bill started his career making working with vineyards/grapes in the cool coastal-influence nooks and crannies of the Monterey Bay area. The 2023 Riesling comes from sixty year old dry-farmed vines in the storied Wirz Vineyard in Cienega Valley at 1000 ft elevation. They worked with Maidenstoen Wines to gain access to this singular vineyard bisected by the San Andreas fault. After pressing nearby, the juice brought to Decision Hill’s Cellar in the Chehalem Mountains where it underwent ambient fermentation in stainless steel, aged in neutral oak.

Decision Hill Wines sources grapes from sites where climate, soil, and grape-growing energies are in harmony. We focus on distinct white & rosé wine from the Willamette Valley, Columbia Gorge, and Eastern Washington. With careful consideration toward the community and environment, we fuse perspectives on design, thoughtful viticulture, and delicate winemaking. We utilize a technical approach while paying mind to subtle & esoteric energies, and intuition. Decision Hill is Bill and Ann Snyder. Bill has worked at wineries up and down the West Coast as a winemaker, enologist, vineyard consultant, and educator. Ann has enjoyed drinking wine throughout her career in textile and color design.

Personality: This bone-dry riesling is full-flavored, and driven by lime, stone fruits, and minerality. Despite its electric acidity, its fuller body shows the longer hang time provided to the grapes by coastal, lower-latitude origins.

Harmony: Tinned fish, seafood tapas, charbroiled octopus, artichoke dip.
