Grüner Veltliner, 2023

One of our proudest accomplishments was introducing to Seattle - RAM Cellars, wines made with love by Viv Kennedy out of PDX sourcing fruit from OR and WA to make some very fun and friendly juice. Her Grüner is a breath of fresh air that smells like Bosc pear, a little bay leaf and five spice. The fruit comes from Wheatland Vineyard in the Willamette Valley, but wine is made back at the winery in SE PDX. After a gentle crush, it fermented with native yeats in stainless steel for 5 months, unfined/unfiltered with minimal SO2 added.

Vivianne is the only Trans producer we know of, and we’re proud to have been the first to bring her wines to Seattle. A portion of the sales will be donated to Trans Lifeline, a grassroots hotline and microgrants non-profit offering direct emotional and financial support to trans people in crisis – for the trans community, by the trans community.

The Story: The launch of RAM Cellars was the culmination of years of studies and work by winemaker Vivianne Kennedy, Maven of Mirth & Darling of Delight, who came out as Trans in 2018. An interest in wine turned into a love of wine, which turned into an intense curiosity about everything that goes into the production of premium wines. With great pleasure and honor, she brings bring hand crafted wines to you and yours. She makes small batch lots of wines that are reflective of both the season they were grown and the varietal characteristics of the grapes they contain. RAM is focused on native yeast ferments on all wines, zero fining or filtration, minimal sulfite levels, and meticulous treatment of our wines throughout their lifecycle in the cellar. She works with a small team of women and queerdos out of Hip Chicks do Wine in SE Portland, and last summer opened a tasting room called Community Wine Bar. How cool is that?

Personality: Did we mention this tstes like summer? Bosc pear, fresh plantain, fresh brioche, lime blossom and a hint of petrichor are evident at first sniff.  Pear, nectarine, lime zest, honeydew melon, fresh snow, lemon lime soda and a light herbaceousness dance above polished river rocks in glass en route to a dazzling finish.

Harmony: This wine pairs well with pan fried trout, grilled veggies, soft cheeses, asparagus dishes,, and sunny days and good times with the ones you love! Enjoy while vigorously defending trans-rights.
