The Story: Château Sicot is a relatively small property on the right bank in Bordeaux that is run by only 12 people, and yet they made the move to go Certified Organic in 2009. Originally founded in the early 1800s, their property still has the original buildings that not only bring charm, but reveal their history as a working farm. The head of the family business, Philippe Carretero (an engineer-enologist), has led this team for about 30 of the last 50 years. Like many right bank producers, the vineyard extends over a high clay-siliceous plateau. Sicot quietly over-delivers on both quality and price, crafting wines that punch far above their weight while staying refreshingly down to earth.
Personality: Pale straw in the glass with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose shows citrus peel, white peach, and subtle notes of fresh bread. On the palate, it is dry and focused, with flavors of lemon, stone fruit, and a faint savory edge. Texture is crisp and clean, supported by brisk acidity. The finish is dry, mineral-driven, and absolutely refreshing.
Harmony: Skip the OJ and serve this at brunch, as is!
