Chenin Blanc & Chardonnay, NV

Brézé > Saumur > Loire > France

Arnaud Lambert, vigneron a Brézé, in Saumur strives for consistent methods in the cellar, so that each individual terroir is what shines through. Only the traditional method for this crémant, which—grown on the estate’s chalkiest soils can hold their own against some of the great, classic champagnes at a fraction of the price. From one of the Loire Valley’s greatest terroirs - Brézé, this now famous commune in Saumur is known for its laser-sharp Chenin Blanc wines, fresh, bright, and extremely age-worthy. The blend here is Chenin Blanc with the rest Chardonnay; the Chard is used to soften up, add body and round out the edges of the extremely tense character of the Chenin grown in the coldest sites of this already frigid hill. Certified organic.

The Story: If France had a wine region that perfectly exuded the quintessential Seattle vibe, we’d look no further than La Loire. The longest river in France, unwinds from the Central Massif all the way North to Sancerre, and then abruptly West where it stretches toward Nantes on the Atlantic coast at 47.5°N - almost aligned with Seattle on a different salty shore. A similar cool marine climate and casual grunge aesthetic questions the status quo along this latitude with attitude, it seems. Some of our favorite wines in all the world seem to be effortlessly forged in these parts, with Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc being star players.

While soft-spoken, Arnaud Lambert is helping to drive a movement in the appellations of Saumur and Saumur-Champigny. The goal is to re-discover each individual terroir and its potential through organic viticulture and precise winemaking.

Personality: Golden yellow in color, light in body with aromas of fresh citrus, honey, and minerality. Crisp acidity, dry and elegant. Lively persistent bubbles. Pleasure in liquid form.

Harmony: The wine's acidity and effervescence will cut through the richness of any dishes, providing a harmonious balance of flavors. Try with fresh goat cheese, oysters, sushi, savory pork dishes, or for dessert - caramelized apple tarte.
