Pinot Noir, 2023

What a joy to discover the wines of Jessica Miller, an up-and-comer from Willamette Valley, daring to employ the French vigneron model to neglected vineyards she now shepherds as a one-woman operation. The Picker’s blend is 100% Pinot, 2/3 Hollow Oak Vineyard fruit, 1/3 Coast Range fruit. It is a silky, poppy homage to the ever present "chillable red" category. Practicing organic & biodynamic.

Story: Little Crow is a one-woman operation, started in 2016 by Jessica Miller. Impressively, she does all the farming (pruning, tractor work, canopy work, biodynamic and organic sprays) on 2 vineyards, and then hops into the winery for crush to make the wine. This vigneron model was something she learned first-hand from friends in Europe, and when she found tiny neglected vineyards in Oregon she decided to bravely take the leap, and try and make it work here. The company is named in honor of the little birds that eat bugs off the backs of elephants, a symbiotic and scrappy relationship, as well as after one of the historical figures in Jessica’s home state, Minnesota.

Personality: Classic juicy pinot. This vintage comes with a little more body, a little more oompf, mostly coming from the refinement of time in barrel.

Harmony: Roast chicken, salads, anything with mushrooms, or simply - Pizza night.
